Focus assist (also called quiet hours in earlier versions of Windows 10) allows you to avoid distracting notifications when you need to stay focused, and is set by default to activate automatically under certain conditions. Here's how to turn focus assist on or off:

  1. Select the action center icon on the taskbar.

  2. Select Focus assist to cycle through the available settings: either Priority Only, Alarms Only, or Off. (If you don't see the Focus assist tile, you may need to select Expand first.)

  3. Focus assist settings can also be edited by selecting Start > Settings > System > Focus assist, or type Focus assist into the search box on the taskbar, and then select Focus assist settings from the list of results.

For iOS (iPhone & iPad)

When Do Not Disturb is on, there's a crescent moon icon ☾ in the status bar.

There are two ways to turn Do Not Disturb on or off:

  1. Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb to turn on Do Not Disturb manually or set a schedule.

  2. Open Control Centre on your iPhone or iPod touch, or on your iPad. Then touch and hold the crescent moon icon to quickly adjust your Do Not Disturb settings or tap the crescent moon icon ☾ to turn it on or off.

For macOS

Temporarily turn off Do Not Disturb

  1. In the menu bar on your Mac, click the Do Not Disturb icon ☾.

  2. Click the active duration (it’s highlighted), then click anywhere on the desktop.

The Do Not Disturb icon is removed from the menu bar.

You can also turn off Do Not Disturb by pressing and holding down the Option key while you click the date and time in the menu bar, or by pressing ☾ (if available in the row of function keys on the keyboard).

Schedule Do Not Disturb

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Notifications.

  2. Click Do Not Disturb at the top of the sidebar, then set options to schedule it.
